Early Bisons Get the Win; Kelly Drives in Four

SEARCY – Harding scored three runs in each of the first two innings and took advantage of six Southern Nazarene errors to defeat the Crimson Storm 8-3 in the first game of a three-game Great American Conference series at Jerry Moore Field.
 
With the victory, Harding improved to 17-11 overall and 9-7 in the GAC. It was Harding's third straight win. Southern Nazarene lost its 11th consecutive GAC game and fell to 5-19 overall and 1-15 in conference.
 
The series concludes Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at noon. Entering the doubleheader, Harding sits fifth in the conference standings. The top six teams reach the GAC Tournament in May.
 
Connor Kelly had two-run singles in both the first and second innings and tied a career high with four RBIs. Luke Van Dover walked three times and has reached in all 28 games this season. Nolan Fertig and Ben Brauss also had two hits each for Harding.
 
Tanner Smith (4-4) started and got the win for Harding. He pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed only one unearned run in the fifth. He gave up a leadoff single to Garrett Perez in the first and did not surrender another hit until the sixth.
 
Brian Tims gave up a two-run home run to Jefferson Harris in the eighth but held Harding's lead with his 2 2/3 innings. Dylan Adcock pitched a scoreless ninth.
 
It was the second straight game a Harding opponent made six errors in a game. Union had six in Harding's 10-9 victory Tuesday. The six errors Friday led to five unearned runs.
 
Tyler Thompson (3-4) started for Southern Nazarene and did not escape the second inning. He gave up five hits and six runs (two earned) in 1 2/3 innings.
