Harding Baseball Wins in Extras, Has Win Streak Ended in Doubleheader Split

ALVA, Okla. – Harding won for the third time this season in extra innings in game one and had its winning streak snapped in game two as the Bisons split a Great American Conference doubleheader at Northwestern Oklahoma. Harding won 6-3 in game one, and Northwestern won 7-3 in game two. The series concludes with a single game Saturday at 1 p.m.

Game 1
Jack Thomas and Ben Bailey both had RBI singles in the top of the 10th to push Harding to victory over Northwestern in game one. The Bisons scored three in the top of the 10th with Thomas later scoring from third on a wild pitch.

Harding took a 3-1 lead in the top of the eighth with runs scoring on Luke Van Dover's team-leading fifth home run of the season and on another Thomas RBI single.

Northwestern rallied to tie it with solo home runs from Daschal Johnson in the eighth and Justin Bundy in the ninth. Both home runs came against Ryder Yakel and were his first two earned runs allowed all season.

After Harding scored three in the top of the 10th, Yakel (3-2) returned and set down Northwestern in order, striking out Jake Darrow to end the game. It was Harding's third win in four extra-innings games this season and its seventh straight victory overall.

Ben Brauss was 3-for-4, his first three-hit game of the season. Van Dover was 2-for-3 with a home run and his 16th double. Jack Thomas was 2-for-5 with three RBI.

Tanner Smith started on the mound for Harding and allowed only one earned run on five hits with one walk over 7.0 innings. Yakel struck out three in his 3.0 innings of work.

Game 2
Northwestern ended Harding's winning streak in the seven-inning game two. Ranger starter Jacob Uhing (4-1) held Harding to only three hits and two runs (one earned) over 5.0 innings.

Harding held an early lead. Nolan Fertig walked to lead off the game and came around to score on Connor Kelly's fielder's choice.

Northwestern answered with two in the bottom of the inning off Harding starter Logan McCall (1-2).

Harding retied the game in the third. Fertig again led off the inning and singled, scoring later on a misplayed bunt.

Northwestern took the lead for good with three in the fourth and two more on a Johnnuelle Ponce home run in the fifth. Harding's run in the sixth came on Brendan Perrett's RBI single to score Kelly.

Miles Humphreys was 2-for-4 and was the only Bison with multiple hits. The Rangers walked Luke Van Dover intentionally in the first inning to extend his on-base streak to 33 games, the second longest in program history.
