Harding Baseball Shutout in Series Finale at Northwestern Oklahoma

ALVA, Okla. – Harding baseball fell 5-0 to Northwestern Oklahoma Saturday in the finale of the three-game Great American Conference series at Ranger Field.

Harding dropped to 21-13 overall and 12-9 in GAC action. The Bisons are back at home next weekend to take on Southwestern Oklahoma. Northwestern (19-14, 9-11) shutout Harding for only the second time this season.

Jake Darrow doubled with one out in the first and scored on Johnnuelle Ponce's ground out to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead. Brock Randels walked with two outs in the second and came around to score on a wild pitch to make it 2-0 in the second.

Northwestern used three hits and a Harding error to score three more in the sixth and pull out to a 5-0 lead.

Miles Humphreys had two of Harding's six hits, all of which were singles. Luke Van Dover was 0-for-4 and had his streak of consecutive games reaching base snapped at 33 for the season and 35 overall, tying the school record of Harrison Hunter in 2015.

Harding starter Ty Hoecker (4-1) suffered his first loss of the season. He pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Brian Tims relieved and threw 23 of his 25 pitches for strikes over 2 2/3 scoreless innings. Tims had two strikeouts.

Northwestern's Matt Guertzen improved to 4-2 with seven shutout innings. He struck out a season-high seven Harding hitters. Beau Britton and Kyle Rogers each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Luis Cintron went had three of Northwestern's nine hits.
