Late Goals Lift Harding Men's Soccer over Oklahoma Baptist

SHAWNEE, Okla. – A pair of late goals lifted Harding men's soccer to a 4-2 victory over Oklahoma Baptist Thursday in the Bisons's Great American Conference opener.

Oklahoma Baptist tied the game at 2-2 in the 79th minute, but Harding responded with an 88th minute goal from Peter Hmung and another in the 90th minute from Riley Mayes.

The victory moved Harding to 2-1-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the GAC. Oklahoma Baptist fell to 2-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in conference.

After Oklahoma Baptist opened the scoring with a goal by Dominic Gibson in the 8th minute, Harding sophomore Jack Savage tied the game on an assist from Oliver Callado.

The game went to halftime tied at 1-1.

Harding took a 2-1 lead in the 55th minute on Christian Ramos's third goal of the season, all on penalty kicks. Oklahoma Baptist answered in the 79th minute on a Carlos Felgueroso goal that tied the game at 2-2.

Hmung then scored the game-winner on an assist from Jeremy Nwonumah. It was Hmung's first goal of the season and second career game-winning goal.

Mayes's goal came on a tap in after Hmung hit the crossbar with a shot.

Harding's win was its eighth straight over Oklahoma Baptist. The Bisons have scored two or more goals in all eight games.

Harding is back in action Saturday at 11 a.m. against Southern Nazarene in Bethany, Okla.
