Harding Comeback Sinks Tech in Overtime

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Harding made 25 of 29 free throws, including 10 of 11 in overtime, to erase a 12-point fourth-quarter deficit and defeat Arkansas Tech 75-71 Thursday in Great American Conference action at Tucker Coliseum.

Harding picked up its second road victory of the season and won its second straight against Arkansas Tech to improve to 8-7 overall and 5-4 in the GAC. Tech lost for the third time in eight home games and fell to 8-5 overall and 5-4 in conference.

Harding struggled from the field, shooting only 28%, but outscored Tech by 16 points at the free-throw line. The Golden Suns were just 9 of 14 from the line.

Harding trailed 56-44 with 8:14 left in the fourth but went on a 10-3 run over the final three minutes. Jordan Elder made two 3-pointers during the run, and Cheyenne Brown scored the other four, including a pair of free throws with 28 seconds left to send the game into overtime.

During the extra period, Harding outscored Tech 12-8 with all but two of the Lady Bisons's points coming at the free-throw line. Peyton Padgett made a layup with 26 seconds left to give Harding a 73-68 lead. After a 3-pointer from Tech's Jayana Sanders, Carissa Caples made two free throws to seal the win.

Brown led all scorers with 28 points and added 10 rebounds, both season highs. It was her first double-double this season. Caples scored 14 points, and freshman Abbie Jiles added a season-high 13 points.

Ke'Vonshaye Stackhouse led Tech with 17 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double.

Harding returns to action Saturday at home against Southern Arkansas. Tipoff at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House is at 1 p.m.
