Harding Shuts Down East Central for Seventh Straight Home Win

SEARCY – Harding opened the second half of its season with its best defensive effort in a 76-58 victory over East Central Thursday at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

The win extended Harding's home streak to seven games and gave the Lady Bisons a 6-5 overall record and 3-2 conference mark. It was Harding's ninth straight home win over East Central, who fell to 3-8 overall and 1-4 in conference. The Tigers have lost six straight on the road.

Senior Cheyenne Brown led Harding with 16 points, scoring in double figures for the fourth time in her last five games. Sophomore Jordan Elder earned her first start for the Lady Bisons and scored a season-high 15 points. Elder was 5 of 6 from the field and made three of Harding's eight 3-pointers. Junior Carissa Caples scored 10 points and led the team with seven rebounds and four assists.

Harding shot 9 of 15 in the first quarter and led 25-16. A 10-2 run to end the second quarter gave Harding a 45-28 lead at halftime. The Lady Bisons played all 16 players in the second half, but the Tigers got no closer than 12 points.

Harding shot 43% from the field, snapping a streak of five games below 40% shooting. The Lady Bisons outrebounded the Tigers 47-29 and had 17 offensive rebounds that led to 13 second-chance points.

Hannah Ladd scored 16 points to lead East Central, who scored fewer than 60 points for the fifth time this season. Sam Schwab added 15 points.

Harding plays again Saturday, hosting Southeastern Oklahoma at 1 p.m. Southeastern defeated Tech 85-58 Thursday in Russellville.
