Oldest Record in the Book: Richmond Sets Assist Record Five Games In

This is the ninth in a series of stories about the oldest records at Harding University. Today's record is from Harding women's soccer.

The Lady Bison soccer program made its debut in 1998. Since then Harding has played almost 400 games. The oldest record on the book came from the fifth game in program history, played Sept. 17, 1998, in Searcy.

Harding entered the game with wins in three of its first four matches. Louisiana College, an NAIA school located in Pineville, provided Harding's opposition.

It took only 12 minutes for Harding to take the lead, with Melissa Toungette scoring on an assist from Andrea "Tree" Richmond, the first of her four assists, which remains the oldest record in the book.

Richmond scored Harding's second goal only six minutes later. Harding added two more goals from Courtney Pierron and Heather Gray and led 4-0 at halftime.

Harding put the game away early in the second half with Richmond providing assists on a trio of goals that came less than nine minutes apart. Candace O'Neal scored two of the goals and Gray added the other.

Harding won 8-1 and outshot Louisiana College 49-1. The game produced another record that still stands. Louisiana College goalkeeper Krystal Womack made 32 saves in the game, still the most ever by a Harding opponent.

Harding finished the 1998 season with a 6-9-1 overall record. Gray led Harding with 10 goals, and Richmond led with 10 assists, four coming in Harding's overwhelming win over Louisiana College.

Note: Sarah Williamson tied Richmond's assist record with four assists in Harding's 9-0 victory over Delta State Oct. 9, 2005.

Note: Andrea Richmond had 27 career assists to rank second at Harding behind only Lori Boren's 31.
