Harding Falls to East Central in Double Overtime

ADA, Okla. – Harding junior Romio Harvey scored 37 points and made a layup to force overtime, but East Central rallied late to defeat Harding 103-94 in double overtime Saturday in Great American Conference action at the Kerr Center.

East Central won its 11th straight home game and improved to 15-5 overall and 9-5 in conference. Harding fell to 7-13 overall and 2-12 in the GAC.

With Harding trailing 69-67, Harvey hit a driving layup to tie the game.

David Morgan made a four-point play with 3:12 left in the first overtime to give Harding a 79-74 lead. The Bisons led 84-77 on a Harvey 3-pointer with 1:32 left. East Central rallied to score the final seven points. Tiger forward Zac Neely made a 3 with 13 seconds remaining to send the game into a second overtime.

After Tyler Hutchieson made a jumper to put Harding ahead 86-84 with 4:36 left, East Central went on a 12-0 run that included two 3-pointers, and the Tigers pulled away.

Harvey was 13 of 36 and made six 3-pointers for his fourth game of 30 or more points this season. His 36 field-goal attempts broke the previous school record of 29 set twice by Butch Gardner in 1976.

Morgan made three 3-pointers, two in the first overtime, and scored 15. Collier Blackburn added 14, and Tyler Hutchieson had 10.

Camron Talley led East Central with 33 points, shooting 6 of 22 from 3-point range. Matt Garriga also made six 3-pointers and scored 29.

Harding jumped out to an early 17-5 lead, hitting six of its first seven shots, including four 3-pointers. The Bisons made seven of their first 10 3-point attempts, all in the first eight minutes of the game.

Harding is back at home Thursday to take on Arkansas-Monticello.
