ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State connected on 14 3-pointers, the most against Harding this season, and defeated Harding 88-79 Saturday in Great American Conference play at the Duke Wells Center.
The loss snapped Harding's nine-game winning streak, and the Lady Bisons (16-8, 13-5) fell into a tie for first place in the GAC standings. Southeastern Oklahoma won Saturday to tie Harding at 13-5 in conference games.
Henderson State improved to 17-7 overall and climbed within one game of the leaders at 12-6 in conference.
Harding trailed 39-31 at halftime, but Henderson State scored the first eight points of the third quarter, and the Reddies led 47-31. Henderson shot 65%, made five 3-pointers and scored 32 points in the period. Harding trailed 71-55 entering the fourth.
Harding cut the lead to 11 four times in the fourth quarter but got no closer until a 3-pointer at the buzzer set the final margin.
Henderson State made its first five 3-pointers and seven of nine in the first quarter to lead 25-16. Carissa Caples scored 11 of Harding's 16 points.
Harding outscored Henderson State 15-14 in the second quarter. The Lady Bisons shot only 29% in the period but hit 6 of 7 free throws.
Caples led Harding with a career-high 33 points, the third 30-point game of her career. She was 11 of 23 from the field and made five 3-pointers. Cheyenne Brown added 25 points on 7 of 18 shooting. She made 11 of 13 free throws.
Lani Snowden made a career-high six 3-pointers and led Henderson State with 22 points. Karrington Whaley scored 20.
Harding returns to Searcy Thursday to host Southern Nazarene. The Lady Bisons have four regular season games remaining.
