Harding Baseball Cruises Past Christian Brothers

SEARCY – Harding pounded out a season-high 16 hits, and four Bison pitchers struck out 12 without a walk in a 12-3 victory over Christian Brothers Wednesday in nonconference baseball action at Jerry Moore Field.

Harding had struggled with runners on base this season, hitting .172 entering the game, but had 14 hits in 26 at-bats with runners on Wednesday.

Sophomore Cody Smith, junior Brendan Perrett and junior Caleb Stull each had three hits and three RBIs to lead the Harding attack.

Smith had his first career two-double game. Perrett was a home run shy of the cycle, and Stull had his first multi-hit game as a Bison.

Sophomore Dylan Adcock made the start and had a career-high six strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings and left with the game tied at 2-2. Sophomore Joey Lawhorn (1-0) pitched the next 2 2/3 innings, allowing only one hit and striking out three.

Harding (6-4) broke the game open with a four-run fifth inning with Perrett driving in two runs with a single and Stull plating two with a double.

Harding led 6-2 after five and added three more in the sixth. Miles Humphreys led off the inning with his first home run of the season, extending his reached-base streak to 33 straight games dating to last season. Smith had an RBI double in the inning, and Perrett drove in a run with a triple.

The Bisons added three more in the eighth. Smith doubled in two runs, and Brooks Pitaniello drove in a run with a single.

Redshirt freshman Clay Burnett made his Harding debut in pitching the eighth. Junior Brent Southerland struck out the side in the ninth.

Christian Brothers (2-8) had 11 hits and four stolen bases. Reliever Kyle Raburn (1-2) allowed six earned runs over 2 1/3 innings to take the loss.

Harding returns to Great American Conference action with a three-game home series Friday and Saturday against Southern Arkansas.
