Harding Baseball Wins Game Three at Mississippi College

CLINTON, Miss. – Harding salvaged the third game of a three-game season-opening series against Gulf South Conference opponent Mississippi College. The Bisons won 5-2 Sunday after the Choctaws won both games Saturday.

The top four batters in Harding's lineup combined for nine of the Bisons's 12 hits. Connor Kelly, Miles Humphreys and
Luke Van Dover had two hits each, and Michael Chrisman had his first three-hit game for Harding.

Logan McCall (1-0) allowed only three hits and one earned run over 5 1/3 innings to earn the win. Ryder Yakel picked up the save with 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Both pitchers struck out four.

Cody Smith walked with the bases loaded to give Harding a 1-0 lead in the first. After Mississippi College tied the game on an unearned run in the second, Harding took the lead for good in the fifth.

Van Dover singled to lead off the inning, and Chrisman doubled him to third. Two outs later, David Butterfield scored both runners with a single through the left side to go ahead 3-1.

With Harding leading 3-2 in the eighth, Humphreys singled to left with two outs to score Brendan Perrett from third and give the Bisons a two-run lead. Smith doubled and scored on an error for Harding's run in the top of the ninth.

Mississippi College starter Zack Ingram (0-1) took the loss. He allowed three earned runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Caleb Reese was the only Choctaw hitter with two hits.

Harding's victory was its first over Mississippi College in six games over the last two seasons. The Bisons are back in action Saturday, Feb. 8 with a doubleheader against Southwest Baptist.
