SEARCY – Harding women's basketball took sole possession of first place in the Great American Conference with an 86-64 victory over Oklahoma Baptist Saturday on Senior Day at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
Harding's seventh straight home win pushed the Lady Bisons to 18-8 overall and 15-5 in conference play. Harding entered the game tied with Southeastern Oklahoma for first, but Arkansas-Monticello defeated Southeastern 62-44 Saturday in Monticello.
Harding enters the final weekend of play with a one-game lead over Southeastern and Southwestern Oklahoma.
Oklahoma Baptist suffered its 10th straight loss and fell to 5-21 overall and 1-19 in the GAC.
Harding had five players score in double figures, led by Carissa Caples, who scored 17 points. Cheyenne Brown, one of Harding's three seniors, and Jordan Elder both scored 15 points. Amanda Kearney had 11, and Kennedy Cooper scored 10.
Harding blew the game open in the first quarter, outscoring Oklahoma Baptist 29-9. The Lady Bisons shot 50% in the period and outrebounded Oklahoma Baptist 15-4.
Oklahoma Baptist pulled within 11 points in the second quarter, but Harding led 47-33 at halftime. The Lady Bisons led by as many as 30 early in the fourth quarter.
Oklahoma Baptist did not have a player score in double figures. Mckenzie Cooper and Ugochinyere Nwarie both had nine.
Brown, Peyton Padgett and Taylor Sims, Harding's three seniors, each received a framed photo in a postgame ceremony.
Harding's next action is Thursday at Southwestern Oklahoma in Weatherford.
