Harding Baseball Rallies Twice to Sweep Williams Baptist

SEARCY – Harding junior Caleb Stull had five hits to lead the Bisons to two come-from-behind victories Tuesday in a nonconference doubleheader sweep of Williams Baptist.

Harding (10-5) won the opener 5-2 and took game two 10-6. The Bisons return to action Friday in the first game of a three-game Great American Conference series against East Central in Ada, Oklahoma.

Harding trailed 2-0 in game one but scored four in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good. Harding sent 10 batters to the plate in the inning. Stull singled to lead off the inning, and Connor Kelly and David Butterfield both had RBI doubles.

Kelly added another RBI double in the fourth. It was the second time in his career that Kelly had two doubles in a game, both coming against Williams Baptist.

Sophomore Dylan Adcock (1-0), making his second start of the season, gave up two runs in the first inning but shut down the Eagles over the rest of his 6.0 innings. He allowed eight hits but struck out a career-high eight batters. Brent Southerland retired the side in the seventh to earn his first save.

Trent Pobst, a transfer from Southeast Missouri State, went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run to lead Williams Baptist.

Harding's deficit was 5-2 entering the bottom of the third in game two, but the Bisons scored eight straight runs to earn the sweep.

Stull and Michael Chrisman both had three hits, and Zak Whitis hit a three-run home run in Harding's four-run fifth.

Chris Witzke (1-0) came on with two outs in the third and pitched 4.0 innings of relief to earn the win. He allowed only one earned run and struck out five in his first outing of the season. Clay Burnett got the game's last out with the bases loaded to pick up his first save.

Seth Gage was the only Eagle with two hits in the second game.

With his 5-for-6 day, Stull has hit .647 (11 of 17) over Harding's last six games.
