Caples Game-Winner Gives Harding Tie for GAC Regular Season Title

ALVA, Okla. – Carissa Caples scored 30 points and hit the game-winning layup with 26 seconds left to give Harding a 75-74 come-from-behind victory and a tie for the Great American Conference regular season championship Saturday at the Percefull Field House. The title is Harding's fourth since the GAC began in 2011-12 and first since 2017.

Harding concluded the regular season 19-9 overall and 16-6 in the GAC and earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming GAC Tournament. The Lady Bisons will play No. 7 seed Arkansas Tech Thursday at 2:15 p.m. in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Harding trailed 74-73 after a Northwestern free throw gave the Rangers the lead. Caples caught the in-bounds pass and got a ball screen from Cheyenne Brown at the top of the key. Brown's screen freed Caples for a drive down the left side of the lane, and Caples banked in a short jumper for the winning basket.

Northwestern still had two chances to retake the lead late, but Caples blocked Bailey Brown's shot, and Kalea King's contested jumper at the buzzer bounced off the front rim.

Caples played the entire game and shot 12 of 25 from the field, hitting 6 of 13 3-pointers. She became the 19th Harding women's basketball player to score more than 1,000 points in her career.

Cheyenne Brown had 14 points and Jordan Elder had 12. Peyton Padgett led Harding with 12 assists and eight rebounds.

Bailey Brown led Northwestern (13-15, 9-13) with 20 points and nine rebounds. King had 19 points but shot just 5 of 25 from the field.

Harding made 11 3-pointers in the game, including four in the fourth quarter. Northwestern made its first seven 3-point field goals but made only three in the second half.

Harding is 16-0 all-time against Northwestern Oklahoma.
