Sanford Breaks Harding Pentathlon Record in Missouri

JOPLIN, Mo. – Harding women's indoor track and field team had two event winners, two NCAA provisionals and one school record Friday and Saturday at the MSSU Lion Open and Multi, contested at the Missouri Southern Leggett and Platt Athletic Center.

Sophomore Anne-Noelle Clerima won the 400 meters in 57.69 seconds, her first career event victory in six 400-meter races.

Harding was also victorious in the distance medley relay. The team of Sydney Tabor, Clerima, Madison Smith and Parker Fane defeated two other teams in 13:21.94.

Junior Darcy Sanford broke her own school record in placing second in the pentathlon with an NCAA provisional score of 3,327 points. Her score ranked in the top 25 nationally in Division II as of late Saturday night.

Junior Cara Mason placed third of 25 throwers with an NCAA provisional mark of 13.85 meters (45-05.25).
 
Below is a summary of Harding's performances in each event:
60 meters
 – Sophomore Krisman Eakin finished ninth of 36 sprinters in 8.07 seconds, just off her personal best. Sophomore Abigail Howell placed 21st in 8.26.
200 meters – Sophomore Abigail Howell placed 20th of 37 racers in 27.86 seconds.
400 meters – Sophomore Anne-Noelle Clerima won the race in 57.69 seconds. It was her first event victory in six career indoor 400-meter races.
600 yards – Sophomore Natalie Toney placed seventh in 1:31.68 and moved into seventh on Harding's indoor top 10 list in the event.
800 meters – Senior Parker Fane placed second of 23 runners in 2:26.48, her highest career finish in the 800. Freshman Briana Hall placed eighth in 2:32.49
Mile – Freshman Jada Trice placed sixth of 30 runners in 5:32.75. Freshman Madison Smith was 11th in 5:48.78.
3,000 meters – Freshman Molly Passmore placed sixth in a personal-best 11:27.78. Senior Sydney Sanders was seventh in 11:56.93.
4x400-meter Relay – Harding's team of Emily Collins, Anne-Noelle Clerima, Natalie Toney and Krisman Eakin placed second of nine teams in 4:02.19. It was the 10th-fastest mile relay in program history.
Distance Medley Relay – Harding's team of Sydney Tabor, Anne-Noelle Clerima, Madison Smith and Parker Fane defeated two other teams to win in 13:21.94.
High Jump – Sophomore Caroline Sidders cleared a career-best 1.55 meters (5-01.00) to place fourth of 13 jumpers. Her clearance moved her into a tie for eighth on Harding's career indoor performers list.
Long Jump – Sophomore Krisman Eakin was Harding's top finisher. She placed seventh of 25 jumpers with a personal-best mark of 5.08m (16-08.00). She became only the fifth Harding long jumper to pass 5.00 meters indoors. Sophomore Jenna Akins also topped 5.00 meters with a personal-best mark of 5.07 (16-07.75) to place eighth. Sophomore Crista Paik was 15th (4.72m) and freshman Claire Lowe was 16th (4.66m).
Pentathlon – Junior Darcy Sanford placed second of 11 competitors and broke her own school record with an NCAA provisional score of 3,327 points. Her best events were the 60-meter hurdles (783 points) and the high jump (759 points). Senior Emily Shell-Collins set a personal best and placed third with 3,155 points. Her best events were the 60-meter hurdles (750 points) and the 800 meters (736 points). Sophomore Lauren Shell placed seventh with 2,584 points.
Pole Vault – Junior Abigail Konwent placed seventh of 12 by clearing a personal-best 2.95 meters (9-08.00). Freshman Lindsey Parker was eighth (2.75m), tied with senior Diana Davis (2.75m). Freshman Adelaide Konwent was 10th (2.55m).
Shot Put – Junior Cara Mason placed third of 25 throwers with an NCAA provisional mark of 13.85 meters (45-05.25). Sophomore Cooper Monn was fourth at 13.56 meters (44-06.00). Junior Liz Fouts came in eighth at a personal-best 12.31 meters (40-04.75), and Tessa TeGrootenhuis was 14th with a personal-best 10.99 meters (36-00.75).
Triple Jump – Sophomore Krisman Eakin was Harding's top finisher, placing fourth with a career-best mark of 10.54 meters (34-07.00), moving her into fifth on Harding's indoor career top 10. Sophomore Jenna Akins was fifth at 10.53 meters (34-06.75). Sophomore Crista Paik placed ninth at 9.90 meters and Claire Lowe was 11th at 9.35 meters.
Weight Throw – Sophomore Cooper Monn was Harding's top finisher, placing 12th of 28 with a personal best mark of 14.46 meters (47-05.25). The throw was nearly two meters further than her previous best and moved her to second on Harding's Indoor Top 10 Performer list in the weight throw. Junior Liz Fouts was 17th (personal best 13.61m), freshman Kaylee Hausam 18th (personal best 13.24m) and sophomore Tessa TeGrootenhuis 19th (personal best 12.83m).
