Chaigneau Breaks 32-Year-Old Harding Pole Vault Record

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Harding sophomore Dorian Chaigneau broke a 32-year-old Harding record in the indoor pole vault Saturday at the Arkansas Invitational at the Randal Tyson Track Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas.

Chaigneau, a native of Fontenay-le-Comte, France, won the event by clearing 5.10 meters (16 feet, 8.75 inches), breaking the old mark of 16 feet, 6 inches by Harding Hall of Famer Jimmy Sloan in 1989. It was the highest clearance by a Division II athlete this season by almost three inches.

Harding's Ben Ferris, Alex Hindman and Jonathon Wall all cleared 4.75 meters (15-7) to finish in the top six. The Bisons scored 13 of their 26 points in the pole vault.

Junior Will Meredith broke the Harding record in the 200 meters with a time of 22.19 seconds.

Harding scored six points with a third-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Nikolasz Czokas, Dakarai Bush, Thibault Waeles and Fallou Gaye finished in 3:17.61, the fourth-fastest indoor time ever by a Harding quartet.

Gaye, a junior from Dakar, Senegal, placed fourth in the 600 meters in 1:20.50. Czokas, a freshman from Szekesfehervar, Hungary, was fifth in 1:22.06, scoring two points.

Waeles, a sophomore from Perpignan, France, tacked on another point with a sixth-place finish in the 1,000 meters, finishing in 2:29.70.

Harding finished sixth in the meet with 26 points. The other teams at the meet were Arkansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Central Arkansas and Little Rock.

On Friday and Saturday, Harding had two competitors at the Boo Rogers Combined Events in Pittsburg, Kansas. Senior Matt Hipshire of Ferris, Texas, placed second of 10 athletes in the heptathlon with 4,681 points. It was just 20 points off his career best. Junior Moses Rivera was eighth with 3,675 points.
