RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Three Harding volleyball players earned All-Great American Conference honors Wednesday. Sarah Morehead was named first-team All-GAC and Ally Stoner and Kelli McKinnon were named honorable mention All-GAC.
Harding also had four players earn awards for their work in the classroom. Emma Winiger, Kinley Schnell and Sarah Morehead were named GAC Distinguished Scholar Athletes and Kelli McKinnon was named a GAC Elite Scholar Athlete. The GAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete is awarded to student-athletes in the conference tournament with a GPA of 3.70 or higher and at least 70 credit hours. The GAC Elite Scholar Athlete is given to the athlete with the highest GPA in the tournament.
Morehead, a junior setter from Aledo, Texas, picks up her third All-GAC nod. She was honorable mention in 2019 and second team in 2020. It also marks the first time she has been a GAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete. Morehead led the conference in assists averaging 10.27 per set. She also averaged 11 assists per set in conference matches. Morehead had over 50 assists in match four times this season.
Stoner, a junior outside hitter from Tulsa, Oklahoma, gets hear second All-GAC honor. She was named second team last season. Stoner ranks seventh in the GAC averaging 2.98 kills per set. She also had 10 or more kills in a match 10 times this season.
McKinnon, a junior middle blocker from Trophy Club, Texas, earns her second All-GAC honor. She was honorable mention All-GAC in 2019. It is the first time she has been an Elite Scholar Athlete. McKinnon has played in every match this season and has 205 kills and 63 blocks.
Winiger, a junior defensive specialist from Sachse, Texas, and Schnell, a junior defensive specialist from McKinney, Texas, both earned their first GAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete award.
The Harding volleyball team is the No. 4 seed in the GAC Tournament and will face No. 5 seed East Central Thursday in the opening round at 7:30 p.m., the Bank OZK Arena in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
