Strong Fourth Quarter Lifts Harding over Central Oklahoma

SEARCY – Harding scored nine straight points over a three-minute stretch of the fourth quarter to pull away from Central Oklahoma and defeat the Bronchos 84-77 Saturday in nonconference action at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House. Central Oklahoma is a member of the MIAA, located in Edmond.

Harding (2-1) had six players score 10 or more points, led by sophomore Sage Hawley with 19. She added 10 rebounds for her second straight double-double and fourth of her career.

With 5:44 left, UCO's Kelsey Johnson hit a layup to cut Harding's lead to 66-63. Harding responded with nine straight points. Collins had a layup and two free throws and Aubrey Isbell had two layups during the run. The Lady Bisons led by at least six points the rest of the way.

Harding pushed its lead to 48-39 with 6:02 left in the third on a Kendrick Bailey 3-pointer. Central Oklahoma answered with eight straight points to cut the Harding lead to one. Harding led 55-52 entering the fourth.

After a slow start to the second quarter, Harding closed the period on a 15-2 run and led 35-31 at halftime.

Harding made 6 of 8 shots during the run and limited Central Oklahoma to only 1-of-9 shooting during the same stretch.

Central Oklahoma (4-2) shot 53.3% in the first quarter and led 17-16.

Hanna Collins added 16 points for Harding, Isbell and Patricija Peric had 12 each, and both Jordan Elder and Jacie Evans scored 11.

Kelsey Johnson, an All-MIAA player last season, led Central Oklahoma with 32 points and 11 rebounds.

Harding's next action is Friday and Saturday in San Angelo, Texas. The Lady Bisons play Angelo State Friday and Texas Woman's Saturday.
