Harding Wins Third Straight, Wins Road Tilt at Angelo State

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Harding made 11 of 13 free throws in the fourth quarter and held off hard-charging Angelo State 83-75 Saturday in the first game of the ASU Thanksgiving Classic.

The win was the third straight for Harding (3-1) who plays Texas Woman's tomorrow at noon on the same court. Angelo State, a member of the NCAA II Lone Star Conference, fell to 0-5 despite a season-high scoring total.

Senior Jordan Elder connected on five 3-pointers and led Harding with a season-high 18 points. Fifth-year senior Hannah Collins made all six of her free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter and scored 17 points.

Harding led by as many as 13 points in the fourth quarter, but a 13-4 Angelo State run over a three-minute stretch pulled the Belles within 68-64 with 4:54 left. Freshman Aubrey Isbell's three-point play with 4:03 remaining stopped the run. The Lady Bisons led by at least five points until the Belles made two free throws with 34 seconds remaining to cut it back to four. Harding made four free throws the rest of the way to seal the victory.

Sophomore Sage Hawley had 15 points and 12 rebounds, her third consecutive double-double. Lexi Davis made all five of her free throws and scored 10.

Harding led only 40-38 with 4:45 left in the third quarter, but the Lady Bisons outscored the Belles 17-6 the rest of the quarter and led 57-44 going to the fourth. Jordan Elder made two 3-pointers during the run, and Hannah Collins drilled a 3 from near half court at the buzzer.

Four of Harding's five field goals in the first quarter were from 3-point range, but the Lady Bisons trailed 18-16 after one period. Harding committed six turnovers in the first 10 minutes, and Angelo State turned them into 14 points.

Harding turned the tables on Angelo State in the second quarter, forcing the Belles into 10 turnovers. Sage Hawley scored six of Harding's 16 points in the period, and the Lady Bisons led 32-30 at the break.

Blakely Gerber made 11 free throws and led Angelo State with 23 points.

Harding was 25 of 38 at the free-throw line. Angelo State committed 30 fouls and 20 turnovers.

The Lady Bisons shot a season-high 50% (8 of 16) from 3-point range.
