Cold Shooting Sinks Harding in Loss to Ouachita Baptist

SEARCY – Harding junior James Harris had a perfect afternoon from the field and scored a season-high 18 points, but the Bisons fell 71-62 to Ouachita Baptist Saturday in Great American Conference play at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

The loss dropped Harding to 3-5 overall and in conference play. Ouachita snapped a nine-game road losing streak and improved to 2-6 overall and 2-5 in the GAC Eastern Division.

"Give all the credit to Ouachita," Harding head coach Jeff Morgan said. "They physically whipped us at every position."

Harding shot just 35% from the field, including 7 of 27 from 3-point range.

"We missed some shots that we've been making, but I think they had a lot to do with that," Morgan said.

Harris, a junior transfer from North Iowa Area Community College, shot 4 of 4 from the field, hit both 3-point attempts and connected on 8 of 8 from the free-throw line.

Ramiro Santiago added 13 points and seven rebounds.

Ouachita had four players in double figures, led by Ma'Darius Hobson, who came off the bench to score 19 points and grab nine rebounds.

Ouachita led 45-44 with 12:14 left and held Harding without a field goal for over four minutes, extending its lead to 10 points on a Kendarious Smith 3-pointer with 8:33 left.

The Tigers led by 13 at 66-53 with 3:42 left on a DJ Kane jumper. Harding scored the next seven points and cut the lead to 66-60 on a Stetson Smithson layup with 2:13 remaining. Hobson hit a jumper from the right wing to ice the game with just over a minute left.

Harding returns to action Monday in Russellville against Arkansas Tech.
