Henderson State Early Lead Too Much for Baseball Bisons

SEARCY, Ark. – In game two of Harding's series with Henderson State, the Bisons came from eight runs down to defeat the Reddies. After two innings, Saturday, Harding found itself seven runs behind, and this time could not overcome the early deficit and lost 10-5 in the series finale at Jerry Moore Field.

Henderson State (7-5, 5-4) plated five runs in the first and two more in the second.

Harding (7-3, 6-3) had a big inning of its own in the fourth. The Bisons had five extra-base hits in the frame, including Luke Van Dover's school-record 52nd career double. Cody Smith, Caleb Stull and Michael Chrisman each had RBI doubles in the inning, and Brendan Perrett had a run-scoring triple.

Henderson State answered with two runs in the fifth, and Harding never mounted another strong scoring chance.

Chrisman, Harrison Heffley and David Butterfield each had hits to extend their hitting streaks to 10 games.

Zach Bilek was the most effective of Harding's four pitchers. He pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief with three strikeouts. Logan McCall (0-1) started and took the loss.

Alec Lewis led the Henderson State offense. He went 3-for-5 with a double and a home run.

Reddie reliever Brayden Beebe was the winning pitcher, allowing only one hit and no runs with five strikeouts over four innings.

Harding's next game is Tuesday at home against nonconference opponent Williams Baptist. First pitch is at 4 p.m. at Jerry Moore Field.
