Early Homers Sink Harding in Series Finale

SEARCY – Southern Nazarene's first three batters hit home runs Saturday, and Harding never recovered in a 5-3 loss in Great American Conference play at Jerry Moore Field.

Harding won both games of a doubleheader Friday, but Southern Nazarene avoided the sweep with Friday's early power display. The Bisons are 12-6 overall and 9-6 in conference. Southern Nazarene won its first road game of the season and improved to 2-17 overall and 2-13 in the GAC.

Clay Lockett homered on the first pitch of the game by Harding starter Dylan Adcock (1-1). Colby Entwistle and EJ Taylor followed that with homers to left.

David Butterfield cut the lead to 3-1 with a fifth-inning RBI single.

After four hits in the first inning, Harding reliever Carter McCall held Southern Nazarene hitless over the next 4 2/3 innings.

Southern Nazarene tacked on single runs in the seventh and eighth innings.

Caleb Stull pulled Harding within two with a two-run single left in the eighth.

Harding brought the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth but could not push a run across.

Harding outhit Southern Nazarene 10-6, with Harrison Heffley, Chris Witzke and Stull recording two hits each.

The Bisons play a nonconference game Tuesday in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, against Henderson State, and return to GAC play next weekend, hosting Arkansas-Monticello.
