Harding Smacks Eight Extra-Base Hits in Loss at Henderson State

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Harding baseball team met Henderson State Wednesday at Clyde Berry Field for a midweek nonconference slugfest. Harding had eight extra-base hits but could not overcome four Henderson State home runs and lost 12-9.

Harding (12-7) is part of a three-way tie for fourth place in the Great American Conference with a 9-6 GAC record. The Bisons will return to conference play this weekend with a three-game series against Arkansas-Monticello in Searcy.

Henderson State (13-8, 9-6) is also part of the three-way tie for fourth and hosts Southern Arkansas this weekend.

The teams combined for 25 hits Wednesday, including 11 from the Bisons. Cody Smith went 3-for-4 with a single, a double, and a triple and drove in two runs. Brendan Perrett had two doubles and three RBIs.

As a team, Harding had five doubles, two triples and a Connor Kelly home run, his third of the season.

Henderson State's Kaden Argenbright went 4-for-4 with a pair of home runs. The Reddies also got homers from Danny Mitchell, Jr. and Bryson Haskins.

Harding starter Ross Shirey (1-1) pitched the first three innings and allowed five earned runs, taking the loss. Henderson State reliever Ethan Perry (2-0) recorded four outs and collected the win.
