Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | by Scott Goode (3/27/21)

Harding Men's Soccer Ties No. 8 Rogers State

CLAREMORE, Okla. – It was not a win, but it was historic.

Playing the fourth of its six spring GAC/MIAA games, the Harding men's soccer team tied Rogers State, the eighth-ranked team in NCAA Division II, 1-1 after two overtimes.

It was the first time in program history, covering 31 games against nationally ranked teams, that Harding (0-3-1) avoided defeat against one of the nation's top programs.

With only 25 seconds left in regulation, Harding sophomore Georgios Petousis took a feed from senior Peter Hmung and tied the game with his second goal of the season. Neither team scored in the overtime periods.

Rogers State's Jordan Watson opened the scoring on a penalty kick in the 66th minute.

Harding held an 18-13 advantage in shots, but Rogers State (4-0-1) had nine shots on goal to Harding's three.

Freshman Jared Nitz started in goal for the Bisons and made a career-high eight saves.

Harding next plays Tuesday in Searcy against Ouachita Baptist, its last home game of the season.
