Chrisman Homers Twice, Drives In Four in Harding Baseball Loss at Henderson State

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Harding junior leftfielder Michael Chrisman put on a show on a chilly Tuesday night at Clyde Berry Field.

Chrisman produced his first career two-homer game and went 3-for-6 with three runs and a career-high four RBIs in a 13-9 loss to Henderson State.

It was the fifth high-scoring matchup between the teams this season. The lowest-scoring game was an 11-3 Harding win March 12 in Searcy. Tuesday's game was the highest-scoring of the five.

Harding (16-14) opened the game with back-to-back home runs from Chrisman and David Butterfield. It was the first time the Bisons have hit consecutive home runs to start a game in Harding's NCAA era (since 1997).

Entering the game, Harding had hit only one home run in the first inning this season. It was only the second time Harding hit two homers in the same inning this season, also blasting two in the second inning at Southeastern Oklahoma on Feb. 26.

It was the second time in his career that Chrisman hit a homer to lead off the first inning. He also hit one last season on Feb. 25 against Williams Baptist.

Harding last hit two homers in the first inning on March 9, 2019, when Miles Humphreys and David Butterfield went deep against Southeastern Oklahoma.

Butterfield followed Chrisman's first blast with his fifth of the season.

Henderson State (18-13) scored five runs with two outs in the second inning on a bases-loaded triple, an RBI single followed by a run-scoring double.

The Reddies led 11-3 after five innings.

Chrisman singled and scored in the sixth, then hit a three-run homer as part of Harding's four-run seventh. He became the first Bison to homer twice in a game since Nolan Fertig hit two against Southwestern Oklahoma on April 5, 2019, and the first Harding player to two hit two home runs in a road game since Miles Humphreys at Southeastern Oklahoma on March 9, 2019.

Additionally, Chrisman joined Adam Darby (April 11, 2009) as the only Harding players to homer twice in a game against Henderson State. Chrisman is the only one to do in on the road. He now had a team-leading 15 multiple-hit games.

Cody Smith singled and scored in the eighth to produce Harding's last run.

Seven Harding pitchers combined to walk nine, hit two and allow 13 Reddie hits. Dylan Adcock, Clay Burnett and Joey Lawhorn each pitched single scoreless innings. Davis Welch (0-1) pitched the first two innings and took the loss.

Henderson State had five players with multiple hits. Reddie reliever Ethan Perry (4-1) was the winning pitcher.

The Bisons return to Great American Conference action this weekend at home against Southwestern Oklahoma.
