East Central Run Sinks Harding in Ada

ADA, Okla. – East Central hit big shots at key times and defeated Harding 79-68 Saturday in Great American Conference men's basketball action at the Kerr Activities Center.

A 7-0 Harding run early in the second half pulled the Bisons within only six points at 54-48. Stetson Smithson and Emir Ahmedic hit layups and Davis Morgan made a 3. East Central answered with a 17-2 run. When Reggie Crawford, Jr., hit a 3-pointer with 8:40 left, it gave the Tigers a 71-50 lead.

East Central (8-10, 6-6) made 5 of 6 from the field, including 4 of 5 from 3-pointer range, during the run.

Three players scored in double figures for Harding (4-13, 2-9). Taylor Currie led Harding with 16 points and 10 rebounds, his fourth double-double of the season. Stetson Smithson scored 15 points and had nine rebounds, and Ramiro Santiago had 10 points and six boards.

Five East Central players scored 10 or more, led by Josh Crutchfield with 15 points.

East Central shot 56% in the first half and led 48-35 at the break. The Tigers up-tempo offense scored 10 points on fast breaks and turned six offensive rebounds into eight second-chance points.

Smithson led Harding with 11 points at the break. The Bisons shot 43% and hit three 3s, two from Santiago.

Harding returns to action Monday in Magnolia against Southern Arkansas, a make-up game missed initially because of COVID-19 protocols. Tip-off will be at 6 p.m.
