Harding Hits Free Throws to Hold Off East Central, Win its Sixth Straight

ADA, Okla. – Harding shot well from the field in the first half and from the free-throw line in the second half to defeat East Central 74-70 Saturday in Great American Conference women's basketball action at the Kerr Activities Center.

The win extended Harding's winning streak to six straight and moved the Lady Bisons to 14-5 overall and 10-4 in the GAC. East Central lost its second straight after going on a five-game winning streak and fell to 10-7 overall and 7-6 in conference.

Harding led 41-25 with 7:56 left in the third quarter, but a 10-0 East Central run in the fourth quarter cut the Harding lead to 55-54 with 6:34 left.

Izzy Cummins hit a 3-pointer with 3:10 left to tie the game at 62-62, but Harding responded with a 3 from Hannah Collins to give the Lady Bisons the lead back for good.

Jacie Evans made a layup with 2:20 left and Harding led 67-64. The Lady Bisons made 7 of 8 free throws in the final 30 seconds to hold off the Tigers.

Harding made 19 of 22 free throws in the second half and 23 of 28 (82%) in the game.

Hawley led Harding with 20 points and 14 rebounds for her 11th double-double of the season. Collins added 15 points. Aubrey Isball was 5 of 5 from the line and scored 12, and Lexie Davis made two 3-pointers and scored 10.

East Central cut into Harding's lead in the third. The Lady Bisons shot only 2 of 13 but made 9 of 10 free throws and led 53-44 after three.

Harding outscored East Central 19-10 in the second quarter to take a 39-25 lead. Sage Hawley made all four of her shot attempts, led Harding with nine points and six rebounds.

East Central shot only 28% in the first half and was outrebounded 23-14. The Tigers were only 3 of 17 from the field in the second quarter.

Harding shot 57% in the first quarter and led 20-15. Collins had two 3-pointers in the period.

Emily Wilson and Madison Rehl had 14 points each to lead East Central.

Harding returns to action with its third straight road game Thursday against Arkansas Tech in Russellville.
