Harding Wins Seventh Straight, Blows Past Ouachita with Late Comeback

SEARCY, Ark. – Trailing by as many as 11 points in the fourth quarter, Harding stormed back with one of its best fourth quarters of the season and defeated Ouachita Baptist 79-72 in Great American Conference women's basketball Saturday at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

It was Harding's seventh straight victory and pushed the Lady Bisons to 15-5 overall and 11-4 in the GAC. Ouachita remained winless on the road this season and dropped to 7-12 overall and 5-10 in conference.

Harding had five players in double figures, led by Lexie Davis who hit a career-high five 3-pointers and scored 18 points.

Aspen Thornton hit a jumper on the left baseline with 6:31 left to give the Tigers a 67-59 lead. Harding score the next nine points with a banked in 3-pointer from Jordan Elder with 3:51 left giving Harding its first lead since early in the game 68-67.

After two Thornton free throws with 3:41 left, Harding went on a 10-0 run to put the game away. Ouachita went more than six minutes without a field goal.

Sage Hawley scored 12 of her 17 points in the fourth quarter, shooting a perfect 4 of 4 from the field in the quarter. Hannah Collins made 7 of 9 free throws, scored 15 points and added a team-high five assists.

Jacie Evans had 11 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Elder hit the key 3-pointer and finished with 11 points.

The game was tied 13-13 after one quarter. Harding shot 39% in the period. Thornton and Makayla Miller combined to score 11 of Ouachita's 13 points.

Ouachita made four straight shots in an 8-0 run that put the Tigers ahead 25-19 with 5:45 left in the half. Ouachita shot 50% in the second quarter, hit 5 of 6 3-pointers and led 36-31 at halftime.

Harding missed its first eight shots of the third quarter as Ouachita pushed its lead to 44-31 with 5:27 left in the quarter.

The Tigers led by as many as 14 in the quarter, but three-point plays from Collins and Hawley and a pair of 3-pointers from Lexie Davis kept Ouachita from pulling away. The Tigers led 57-50 entering the fourth.

Laney Mears led Ouachita with a career-high 23 points. Thornton, the nation's leading scorer, totaled 22 points, and Miller added 18.

Harding returns to action Monday in Russellville with a makeup game against Arkansas Tech. Tip-off at Tucker Coliseum will be at 4 p.m.
