Harding and Newman Play to 1-1 Tie on Senior Night

SEARCY – Both goals came within just over a minute of each other Thursday as Harding and Newman played to a 1-1 tie in GAC/MIAA action at Stevens Soccer Field.

Harding celebrated its two seniors—Donnell Bowes and Joseph Oliver—in a pregame ceremony then set about attacking the Newman goal.

Harding had a 10-1 shot advantage in the first half, but the teams went to the break scoreless.

Twenty-two combined fouls and seven cards marred the second half.

The first goal came in the 85th minute. Harding's Jonah Pastiroff scored his second goal of the season on a shot from the top of the box. Josh Fulton had the assist.

Newman answered 68 seconds later with a long pass that eluded Harding keeper Jared Nitz and led to a tap in.

With the tie, Harding moved to 2-9-2 overall and 2-4-2 in conference. Newman is 1-11-2 overall and 1-6-1 in conference.

Harding concludes its home schedule Saturday at 10 a.m. against 16th-ranked Fort Hays State.
