Harding Comeback Falls Short in 82-75 Loss to Ouachita Baptist

SEARCY – Harding cut an 18-point deficit down to two but fell 82-75 to Ouachita Baptist Saturday in Great American Conference men's basketball play at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Harding fell to 4-15 overall and 2-11 in conference. Ouachita won only its second road game of the season and improved to 5-15 overall and 3-11 in the GAC.

Ouachita had two 8-0 runs and a 10-0 spurt in the first half and led 43-28 at halftime. The Tigers, who entered the game last in the GAC in 3-point shooting, nailed 9 of 12 in the first half. Seven different Tigers made at least one 3-pointer. Ouachita made its last six shots of the half.

Harding shot 41% but seven turnovers led to a 9-2 points-off-turnovers advantage for Ouachita. Taylor Currie led Harding with eight first-half points.

Harding trailed by 18 at 38-20 with 18:18 left. A 9-0 Bison run with all the points coming from Steston Smitson and Taylor Currie pulled Harding within 48-39 with 14:58 remaining.

Harding made 11 of its first 15 shots in the second half. Sam Henderson hit a 3-pointer with 8:10 left to cut the Ouachita advantage to 61-58. The Tigers answered with a four-point play from Ma'Darius Hobson.

Harding went more than seven minutes without a field goal but used a 10-2 run with all 10 points coming at the free-throw line to cut the Tiger lead to 71-69 with 1:36 left.

Hobson hit a 3-pointer on Ouachita's next trip, the Tigers' season-high 13th 3-pointer, and Ouachita made eight free throws in the final minute to hold off the Bisons.

Ramiro Santiago connected on five 3-pointers and led Harding with 19 points. He was one of five Bisons with 10 or more points. Currie had 15 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Sam Henderson scored 12, Smithson had 11, and Romen Martin finished with 10.
