Bisons Fall in Make-Up Game at Southern Nazarene

BETHANY, Okla. – Harding sophomore Taylor Currie scored 20 points and blocked four shots but Southern Nazarene took an early lead and held off the Bisons for a 68-55 victory Monday in Great American Conference men's basketball action at the Sawyer Center.

Harding (4-16, 2-12) plays its second straight make-up game Tuesday at 6 p.m. against Arkansas Tech in Russellville. Southern Nazarene (15-6, 10-5) won for the 10th time in its last 11 games and the 10th straight time in the series.

After Harding scored the first basket of the game, Southern Nazarene went on a 16-3 run and led the rest of the game. The Crimson Storm led 29-20 at halftime. Harding cut the Southern Nazarene lead to four points three times in the second half but got no closer.

The Crimson Storm closed the game by scoring seven straight points in the final 59 seconds.

Currie shot 8 of 14 from the field and scored 20 points or more for the eighth time this season. Senior Ramiro Santiago had 13 points and a team-high five assists. Sophomore Stetson Smithson played the entire game and scored 12 points, connecting on all eight of his free throws.

After shooting 30.4% in the first half, Harding improved to 50% (12 of 24) shooting in the second half.

Junior Adokiye Iyaye, a transfer from Texas-San Antonio, led Southern Nazarene with 29 points. He made 9 of 20 shots and 10 of 13 free throws. Sophomore Nick Davis added 17 points and 11 rebounds. The Crimson Storm played without leading scorer Tyler McGhie (16.8 points per game).
