Harding Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader at Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Harding baseball continued its unbeaten start to the season with a pair of victories over Christian Brothers Tuesday in nonconference action at Nadicksbernd Field.
Harding improved to 3-0 and hosts McKendree of the Division II Great Lakes Valley Conference in a three-game weekend series.

GAME 1 | Harding 10, Christian Brothers 4
Junior Coulton Doyle put together a brilliant showing at the plate in game one, hitting two home runs to help power Harding to a 10-4 win. The home runs were the first two hits of Doyle's collegiate career and accounted for his first five career RBIs.

Senior Dylan Adcock (1-0) started on the mound and picked up the win for Harding. The right-hander went two shutout innings while giving up one hit, allowing no walks and striking out one. Ross Shirey (2.0 IP) and Clay Burnett (1.0 IP) had scoreless outings in relief.

Junior Michael Dewald added to Doyle's awesome power-hitting performance by going 2-for-4 with a double. Junior Drew McNeel also helped out for the Bisons, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bisons put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Harding's offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Doyle.

The Bisons then held the Buccaneers scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Dewald came across to score the lone run of the inning for Harding, which brought the Bisons lead to 7-0.

Christian Brothers narrowed Harding's lead to 7-3 before the Bisons stretched the advantage to 9-3 in the fourth inning. The Bisons added two to their tally on Doyle's two-run homer to left.

The Buccaneers fought back, closing the gap to 9-4 until Harding added some insurance in the sixth. Senior Cody Smith crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Bisons, bringing the score to 10-4 in favor of Harding.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Harding took a 3-0 lead in the second inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 6-2 win in game two.

Freshman Luke Johnson (1-0) started on the mound and picked up the win for Harding (3-0). The right-hander went two shutout innings while giving up one hit, allowing no walks and striking out two. Freshman Kyle Lane also made an impact on the mound for the Bisons, throwing two shutout innings while allowing no hits, with no walks and two strikeouts. Sophomore Davis Welch also pitched a scoreless inning.

In the batter's box, the Bisons were paced by senior David Butterfield, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double and two RBIs. Senior Cody Smith put together a standout effort as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Senior Zak Whitis also chipped in for Harding, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bisons then held the Buccaneers scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Harding plated two runs in the third, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of junior Jeffrey Worley, which brought the Bisons lead to 5-0.

Christian Brothers narrowed Harding's lead to 5-2 before the Bisons stretched the advantage to 6-2 in the seventh inning. The Bisons scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Whitis.
