Six-Run First Lifts Harding over Christian Brothers

SEARCY – Harding scored six runs in the first inning en route to a 14-6 nonconference baseball victory over Christian Brothers Tuesday at Jerry Moore Field.

Harding, winners of seven of its last eight, improved to 18-11 overall and turns its attention to this weekend's Great American Conference series at Arkansas-Monticello. The Bisons are tied for fifth in the 12-team conference with the top eight qualifying for the conference tournament in May in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

It was Harding's ninth straight win over Christian Brothers and 22 in the last 25 meetings between the teams.

Harding had a season-high 19 hits with seven of those coming in the first inning, including five straight singles at one point. The key hit in the inning was a bases loaded, two-run single from Brendan Perrett.

Four different Harding hitters had three-hit games—David Butterfield, Cody Smith, Sawyer Price and Drew McNeel. Butterfield and Smith both had their ninth doubles of the season, Xavier Arias hit his first triple, and Coulton Doyle hit a two-run homer, his team-leading 11th of the season. Doyle and Price both had three RBIs.

Harding used 10 pitchers in the game with Bryan Seaman (2-1) getting the win with a scoreless inning. Koby Keen made his Bison debut, recording the first out in the top of the ninth. The 10 pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts.
