Harding Shuts Downs Northwestern Oklahoma; Advances to GAC Tournament Semis

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Harding sophomore Patricija Peric had not started a game since Jan. 18. She started Friday against Northwestern Oklahoma in the quarterfinals of the Great American Conference Tournament, and the move by Harding coach Tim Kirby looked like pure genius.

Peric scored a career-high 22 points and led No. 3 seed Harding to a 67-50 victory over No. 6 seed Northwestern Oklahoma at the FireLake Arena and a berth in the semifinals against longtime rival Arkansas Tech. The matchup between the Lady Bisons and No. 7 seed Golden Suns will be Saturday at 8 p.m.

Peric is known as one of the best on-ball defenders in the conference, and she helped Harding hold Northwestern Oklahoma without a point in the third quarter to blow a close game wide open.

Harding led 38-35 at halftime, but in the third quarter, Northwestern missed all 16 shot attempts, including seven 3-pointers. The Lady Bisons outscored the Rangers 15-0 in the period and went to the fourth quarter ahead 53-35.

It was only the fourth time in GAC history that one team held another without a point for an entire quarter and the first time ever in the GAC Tournament.

Jacie Evans added 18 points and 10 rebounds, her fifth double-double of the season. Hannah Collins scored 11 and led the team with four assists.

Peric was 7 of 13 from the field, including 4 of 7 from 3-point range. Her previous career-high was 14 points, set against Northwestern Oklahoma in Searcy.

Bailey Brown led Northwestern with 15 points and 13 rebounds and battled foul trouble throughout the game.
