The Harding men's golf team shot a 17-over 305 at the Hot Springs Country Club in the first round of the GAC Golf Championships on Sunday (April 10). The Bisons finished the day in fifth, ten strokes behind Arkansas Tech and Southwestern Oklahoma State who are tied for first with 7-over 295.
All-GAC Honorable Mention honoree,
Trevor Mellott led the way for the Bisons, shooting a 3-over 75 and finishing tied for 11
th.
Sam Tandy, an All-GAC First Team member, made 14 pars in round one, the most in the tournament, and shot a 4-over 76 to finish tied for 13rd.
Caleb Nichols made three birdies and shot a 5-over 77. GAC Freshman of the Year,
Wilmer Haakansson also made three birdies and shot a 5-over 77. Both Nichols and Haakansson are tied for 18
th.
Finlay Cummings shot a 7-over 79 and tied for 33
rd.
Santiago De La Fuente from Arkansas Tech leads the tournament with a 1-under 71.
The Bisons will return to the course on Monday morning at 8 a.m. for Round 2.
