Harding Runs Home Streak to Six with 12-4 Victory over Central Baptist

SEARCY – Every batter in Harding's starting lineup had a hit, and the Bisons tied a school record for being hit by a pitch in a 12-4 victory over NAIA opponent Central Baptist Tuesday at Jerry Moore Field.

It was Harding's sixth straight home win and its 18th consecutive victory over Central Baptist. The Bisons improved to 21-12 overall, winning 11 of their last 14 games. Harding now turns its attention to its Great American Conference series this weekend against conference leader Southern Arkansas. Friday night's series opener begins at 6 p.m.

Harding used two big innings Tuesday to put Central Baptist away. Down 2-0, the Bisons plated four runs in the second inning. Brendan Perrett had an RBI double in the inning, and David Butterfield added a run-scoring single.

The Bisons led 7-4 entering the eighth, and added five more in the inning. Central Baptist pitchers hit three Harding batters in the inning, running the total of HBPs in the game to seven, tying Harding's school record set at Delta State in 2009.

Butterfield's two-run double to left center was the key hit in the inning.

Sophomore right-hander Ross Shirey (1-1) earned his first start of the season and went 5.0 innings to collect the win. He gave up six hits and no walks, allowed one earned run and struck out three. Javier Lobo, Luke Johnson, Billy Johnston and Davis Welch each pitched an inning in relief.

Butterfield was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. It was his 10th multi-hit game and his fifth multi-RBI game this season.

Chris Witzke had an infield single in the eighth to extend his hitting streak to 13 games, the longest by a Harding player this season.

Seven of Harding's 10 hits in the game came with runners in scoring position.
