Sanchez Eagles, Leads Harding to Near-Record Round

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. – The 10th eagle in program history from junior Brenda Sanchez helped lead the Harding women's golf team to a tie of its third-best round ever Tuesday in Round 1 at the Central Region Fall Preview. The 36-hole tournament concludes tomorrow at Adams Pointe Golf Club.

Sanchez, a native of Celaya, Mexico, shot 1-over 73 and is tied for seventh after the first round. Her eagle came on the par 5, 457-yard ninth hole, and she became the first Lady Bison golfer with two career eagles.

Harding's team shot 10-over 301, only three strokes off the school record of 298 set in the second round of the UCO Classic in 2012. The Lady Bisons, sixth in the team standings, were especially strong on par 3s. Harding shot 1 over on the four par 3s, the best score of the 16 teams in the tournament.

Junior Alicia Martinez played the back 9 at 1 under and finished the round at 2-over 74. She is tied for 14th.

Freshman Pilar Martinez shot 4-over 76 in her first collegiate round. She is tied for 27th.

Sophomore Ines Sanchez shot a career-best 78 and is tied for 36th.

Freshman Brenley Meche also made her Harding debut. She shot 10-over 82 and is tied for 55th.
