Harding's Pastiroff Strikes Twice in Fast-Paced Battle Against Southern Nazarene

SEARCY – In a GAC/MIAA clash at the Stevens Soccer Complex, Jonah Pastiroff, a Harding sophomore hailing from Auckland, New Zealand, netted two quick goals within just 84 seconds during the Bisons' match against the 17th-ranked Southern Nazarene, despite their eventual 7-2 loss.

At the 69:33 mark, Pastiroff capitalized on an indirect free kick just outside the six-yard box, awarded to Harding after a Southern Nazarene back pass was handled by the goalkeeper. Pastiroff received a short feed from Gabe Guimond and powered it past the defensive wall into the net.

Only 84 seconds later, at 70:57, Pastiroff was fouled in the box by a Southern Nazarene defender, and he confidently converted the resulting penalty kick, securing Harding's second goal of the match.

However, despite Pastiroff's impressive performance, Harding ended the game with a loss, bringing their overall record to 3-7-1 and conference record to 1-4-0. Southern Nazarene, on the other hand, improved to 6-2-2 and remained undefeated in conference play at 4-0-0. Notably, these two goals were the first allowed by the Crimson Storm in a conference game this season.

Southern Nazarene established a 3-0 lead by halftime and added four more goals in the second half.

TEAM NOTES:
• The majority of Harding's goals this season, 12 out of 14, have come in the second half of games.
• This match marked the first time Harding had conceded seven goals since a 2019 game against Fort Hays State, which ended in an 8-1 loss.
• The Bisons ended a three-game scoreless streak and managed to score multiple goals for the fifth time this season.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES:
• Pastiroff's quick-fire goals within 84 seconds of each other ranked as the third-fastest consecutive goals by the same player in program history. Christian Ramos had scored two goals 68 seconds apart against Central Baptist in 2016, and Jeff Ireland achieved the feat with two goals 80 seconds apart against Ouachita Baptist in 2001.
• Pastiroff's performance earned him the distinction of becoming the first Harding player this season to score multiple goals in a single game, marking his first career two-goal game.
• In the game, Harding goalkeeper Jared Nitz matched his career high with 10 saves.
• Defender Jacob Hernandez and midfielder Brandon Southard played the full 90 minutes. This was the third time Hernandez achieved this feat this season, while it marked the sixth time for Southard, who leads Harding with 915 minutes played.

SERIES NOTES:
• Despite the loss, Harding still holds the all-time series lead against Southern Nazarene at 14-7-3. However, the Crimson Storm has won the last two meetings between the teams, with Harding's last victory occurring in a 3-2 match in Searcy in 2021.

UP NEXT:
• Harding will hit the road for their next game, facing 21st-ranked Rogers State in Claremore, Oklahoma, on Saturday. Rogers State boasts a 5-2-2 overall record and a 2-1-0 conference record, and hosts Ouachita Baptist on Thursday evening.
