Washko, Chappell Lead Harding Women to Fourth-Place Finish at Old Glory Gallop

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Harding sophomore Kaylie Washko finished 15th and freshman Jessica Chappell 17th in a field of almost 300 runners Saturday at the Old Glory Gallop 5K cross-country race hosted by Dallas Baptist University.
Washko finished the course in 18:10.9, and Chappell crossed in 18:19.2 to lead the Lady Bisons to a fourth-place finish among 33 teams.
Harding's next two finishers were sophomore Josie Parks, who placed 31st in 18:46.1, and Abby Metzger, who finished 34th in 18:49.1.

TEAM NOTES
•    The Old Glory Gallop marked Harding's final regular season race out of four for the 2023 season. The Lady Bisons previously secured seventh place at the Memphis Twilight, triumphed at the Steve Guymon Invitational, and placed sixth at the Cowboy Jamboree.
•    Harding's participation in the Old Glory Gallop was Harding's first race in Texas since competing in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional in Abilene in 1998 ... Harding placed fourth of 16 teams in that race with Cheri Scharff as Harding's top finisher.
•    Harding's scoring runners finished from 15th through 48th with a span of only 46 seconds. 

INDIVIDUAL NOTES
•    Kaylie Washko stood out as Harding's top runner for the third time this season, running first for the Lady Bisons at the Memphis Twilight and Cowboy Jamboree ... she posted a career-best 5K time of 18:10.9, topping her previous best of 18:48.9 at the 2022 UAH Invitational.
•    Jessica Chappell, a freshman from Pensacola, Florida, and the winner of the Guymon Invitational, secured the second spot among Harding runners. She finished 17th with a season-best 5K time of 18:19.2.
•    Sophomore Josie Parks finished third for Harding, securing the 31st spot with a time of 18:46.1. This marked her fourth consecutive race as a scoring runner for Harding and her second time among the top three.
•    Freshman Abby Metzger finished fourth for Harding, placing 34th in 18:49.1 ... it was her third career 5K race and a new career-best time.
•    Cassidy Graham, a transfer from Texas A&M, emerged as Harding's fifth finisher ... it was her second time among the scoring runners in three races this season and a season-best 5K time of 18:56.7.
•    Harding's sixth and seventh finishers were senior Kylie Phillips (50th, 18:58.0) and sophomore Dinah Winders (51st, 18:59.7).

•    Harding's next action is at the Great American Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 21 in Russellville, Arkansas.
