Third-Quarter Thrashing Lifts Harding over Cameron

SEARCY – Everything that could go right for Harding women's basketball in the third quarter Tuesday night at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House, did.

The Lady Bisons scored 16 straight points in the quarter, holding the Aggies scoreless for more than nine minutes, and blowing open a close game, winning the home opener 67-46.

The win pushed Harding to 2-1 overall, as the Lady Bisons pushed their series lead of the Lone Star Conference Aggies to 9-6. Cameron has lost six of its seven games in Searcy and fell to 1-2.

Harding led 36-31 at halftime. Cameron hit its first shot of the third quarter, but it was all Harding after that. The Aggies missed 13 straight shots. Sage Hawley made all five of her shots in the period during an 18-0 run and Harding led 52-33 after three quarters.

Hawley led Harding with 25 points on 12-of-14 shooting, adding six rebounds and a team-high four assists. Freshman Josie Williams added 16 points, connecting on 4-of-5 3-pointers. Rory Geer led the Lady Bisons with 12 rebounds.

  • Harding set season highs with 25 field goals made and seven 3-pointers.
  • Harding had a +19 rebound advantage and has outrebounded its last two opponents by 36.
  • Harding held Cameron to only two points in the third quarter ... the last time Harding held an opponent to two points or fewer in a quarter was when the Lady Bisons held Northwestern Oklahoma scoreless in the third quarter of the GAC Tournament quarterfinals on Mar. 4, 2022.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
  • Sage Hawley made 12-of-14 (85.7%) from the field, the 10th-best shooting effort (min. 8 made) in program history and second best (min. 12 made) ... Kristen Celsor shot 12 of 13 (92.3%) vs. Southern Ark. on Feb. 21, 2013.
  • Hawley's 25-point effort was her 26th career game of 20 points or more and second this season ... her five blocked shots were one off a career high.
  • Josie Williams scored a season-high 16 points, connecting on 4-of-5 3-pointers ... she made 2-of-2 free throws and is 10-of-10 from the line in the last two games.
  • Rory Geer had 12 rebounds, her seventh career game with 10 rebounds or more ... she had six of HU's 14 offensive rebounds.
  • Regan Crawford and Jacey Crawford both made their Harding debuts ... Kathryn Echols and Patricija Peric both made their season debuts.
