Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Scott Goode (11/21/23)

Late Rally Falls Short: HU's Strong Second Half Can't Overcome Maryville's Early Lead

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Sophomore Rylie Marshall connected on four 3-pointers, and Harding scored 13 straight points during a late second-half run. However, the Bisons fell 87-71 to Maryville (MO) of the Great Lakes Valley Conference on Tuesday.

The loss dropped Harding to 2-3 overall with an upcoming matchup at Oklahoma Christian on Saturday. Maryville improved to 2-0, playing for the first time since defeating Webster 83-51 last Tuesday.

Maryville's solid shooting early gave the Saints a lead they held throughout. The Saints shot 63.9% from the field in the first half, hitting 23-of-36 shots, and led Harding 57-32 at halftime. They made nine 3-pointers in the first 20 minutes.

The key stretch of the first half came when Maryville scored 16 straight points to take a 23-5 lead just eight minutes into the game.

While Harding trailed by as many as 30 in the second half, the Bisons whittled away at the lead and cut the margin to only 13 late on an Abou Gbane layup.

Marshall led Harding with 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Sam Smith added 13 points, hitting 6-of-8 from the field, and Sam Henderson contributed 12 points.
