Harding Suffers Back-to-Back Shutouts as Newman Triumphs 3-0

SEARCY – Newman scored three first-half goals in just over 15 minutes, defeating Harding 3-0 in GAC/MIAA men's soccer action at the Stevens Soccer Complex.

The loss dropped Harding to 3-5-1 overall and 1-2-0 in conference play, setting up another GAC/MIAA home matchup against Fort Hays State on Saturday. Newman snapped a five-game conference losing streak and improved to 2-4-2 overall and 1-2-0 in conference.

TEAM NOTES
- Harding has been shut out in consecutive games for the first time since losing 2-0 at Northeastern State and 5-0 at Rogers State on Oct. 20 & 22, 2022.
- Gabriel Otero, Camilo Porto, and Jonah Pastiroff accounted for Harding's three shots on goal.
- With 20 shots attempted, Newman became Harding's third opponent this season to take 20 or more shots in a game.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES
- Jacob Hernandez, the sole Harding field player to play the full 90 minutes, completed his first 90-minute game of the season and the eighth of his career.
- Harding goalkeeper Jared Nitz surpassed the 3,000-minute mark in his career and made six saves.
- Harding midfielder Stefano Silva made his 30th career start.

SERIES NOTES
- Newman's win marked its first victory in four games in Searcy. Harding had a 2-0-1 record against the Jets in the previous three meetings.

UP NEXT
- Harding will host Fort Hays State on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Stevens Soccer Complex. Fort Hays State holds a 2-5-1 overall record and is 1-1-1 in conference play, having tied Ouachita Baptist 2-2 on Thursday in Arkadelphia.
