Sensational Performances Propel Harding to Runner-Up Finish at Rumble in the Jungle

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Competing in its first scored meet of the indoor season, Harding men's track and field placed second among 10 teams at the Rumble in the Jungle Invitational, hosted Friday by Pittsburg State University at the Robert W. Plaster Center.

Harding scored 103 points and finished ahead of all teams except host Pittsburg State.

Highlighting the meet for Harding were five individuals who recorded NCAA provisional marks, three of them winning their events.

Senior Dakarai Bush won the 400 meters in a provisional 47.80 seconds. He is ranked sixth nationally in the event. The NCAA traditionally invites the top 20 in each event to compete at indoor nationals in March.

Junior Savian Bush ran a provisional time of 8.12 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles. He is ranked 21st in Division II.

Sophomore Vlad Malykhin won the pole vault, clearing 5.50 meters or 18 feet, 0.50 inches. It was the best height of the season in Division II.

Senior Jonathan Wall placed second behind Malykhin with a provisional clearance of 4.90 meters or 16 feet, 0.75 inches. Wall is ranked 13th in Division II in the pole vault.

Sophomore Anton Kopytko won the long jump with a provisional mark of 7.18 meters or 23 feet, 6.75 inches. Kopytko ranks fifth in Division II in the event.

Other scoring runners:
Senior Tiag Campney placed eighth in the 800 meters in 1:55.93.

Senior Zach Reed was second in the mile in 4:14.60, and sophomore Noah Haileab was fourth in 4:14.31.

Harding's 4x400 relay team of Derick St. Jean, Samuel Williams, Dakarai Bush and Savian Bush placed third in 3:16.62.

Four other Harding athletes scored in the pole vault. Freshman Everett Mumme was fourth at 4.50 meters or 14 feet, 9 inches. Senior Brandon Hanoch was fifth at the same height. Junior Zalen Robinson was sixth at 4.35 meters or 14-03.25. Freshman Chad Strickland was seventh at 4.05 meters or 13-03.50.

Robinson was also fifth in the long jump at 6.28 meters or 20-07.25.

Sophomore Daniel Osoba was third in the triple jump at 14.20 meters or 46-07.25.

Junior Spencer Helms was third in the shot put at 14.87 meters or 48-09.50.

Helms was fifth in the weight throw at 16.00 meters or 52-6, and Kenneth Hatley was sixth at 15.31 meters or 50-02.75.

Harding will be back in action next Saturday at the same venue for the Wendy's Pittsburg State Invitational.
