McBride's Heroics Lift Harding Past UAM 63-56

SEARCY, Ark. — Keylon McBride scored a season-high 21 points, including a half-court 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer, to lead Harding to a 63-56 victory over Arkansas-Monticello in a Great American Conference men's basketball game Thursday.

Harding led for most of the first half, pushing its advantage to 14-8 on a 7-0 run that included a Wesley Booker 3-pointer, two Stetson Smithson free throws and a jumper from McBride. UAM tied the game twice before halftime, but McBride's buzzer-beating 3-pointer from midcourt gave the Bisons a 29-25 lead at the break.

In the second half, Harding started strong with a 10-3 run that pushed the lead to 39-28 with 16:34 left. McBride capped the run with a 3-pointer from the right wing. The Bisons made 8 of their first 11 shots in the second half and extended their lead to 16 points at 49-33 with 13:22 remaining.

UAM refused to quit, using a pair of 5-0 runs to cut Harding's lead to eight points on two occasions down the stretch. A 7-0 UAM run with less than two minutes left trimmed the deficit to 59-54 with 27 seconds left.

However, McBride and Booker sealed the win with four consecutive free throws, pushing the lead to 63-54.

Sam Smith added 10 points and a career-high-tying 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Booker contributed five points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots.

Seth Grandberry led UAM (3-6, 0-3 GAC) with 22 points on 9-of-26 shooting.

Harding (6-3, 2-1 GAC) shot 46% overall and held UAM to 32%. The Bisons also outrebounded the Boll Weevils 43-31.

Harding's next game is Saturday at Henderson State in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
