Fantastic Fourth Quarter Fires No. 11 Harding Past East Central

ADA, Okla. – No. 11 Harding outscored East Central by 15 points at the free-throw line and came away with a 64-56 victory over the Tigers on Thursday in Great American Conference women's action at the Kerr Activities Center.

Harding shot 6-of-11 from the field, including 2-of-4 from 3-point range, and 9-of-12 at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to break a 41-41 tie after three quarters and pull away.
Sage Hawley led Harding with 18 points, and Josie Williams had 17.

Eat Central led 46-45 with 8:08 left in the game, but Harding went on a 13-2 run over the next five-and-a-half minutes. The run started with a Hawley jumper in the lane and finished with a pair of Williams 3-pointers.

East Central answered with two 3-pointers, but Harding made six free throws, four from Williams and two from Maddi Holt, in the final minute to hold off the Tigers.

Harding improved to 17-2 overall and 12-1 in conference. The Lady Bisons have won six straight overall and have won 10 consecutive games against East Central. The Tigers lost their sixth straight and ninth in their last 10 games and fell to 5-12 overall and 1-12 in conference.

After a slow start to the game, Harding responded by scoring seven straight points and holding East Central scoreless for nearly five minutes. It was part of a 14-3 run that put Harding ahead 14-9 with a little over a minute left in the quarter. A Holt 3-pointer and Rory Geer jumper in the last minute pushed Harding's lead to 19-11 after one quarter.

Harding shot 7-of-15 in the quarter, including 3-of-6 at the 3-point line. The Lady Bisons scored six points off four East Central turnovers.

Harding led 25-15 with 6:36 left in the second quarter, but East Central made five of its next six shots and took a 27-25 lead with 2:53 remaining in the period. Williams ended the run with a 3-pointer that gave Harding the lead back, but East Central went to the break with a 29-28 lead.

Harding shot only 2-of-9 from the field in the second quarter, while East Central shot 8-of-17.

The Lady Bisons held the Tigers scoreless for nearly five minutes of the third quarter, and Harding led 35-31 midway through the period. East Central made four of its last five shots in the quarter and the game went to the fourth tied.

Harding is back in action Saturday in Durant against Southeastern Oklahoma. Southeastern defeated Tech 64-57 at home Thursday night.
