Hot-Shooting Harding Hammers Southeastern; HU Wins Seventh Straight

DURANT, Okla. – Playing one of its best first quarters of the season, No. 11 Harding jumped out to an early lead and pulled away from Southeastern Oklahoma, winning 70-50 Saturday in Great American Conference women's action at Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

It was Harding's seventh straight victory and pushed the Lady Bisons to 18-2 overall and 13-1 in conference games. HU has won seven of its eight road games this season and clinched its place in the upcoming GAC Tournament with the victory. Southeastern had won three of its last four after breaking a 10-game losing streak but fell to 7-13 overall and 3-11 in conference.

Harding swept the series with Southeastern Oklahoma for the first time since 2016-17.

Sage Hawley was solid in the lane for the Lady Bisons, shooting 12-of-19 from the floor and scoring 26 points. Josie Williams scored 15 points and hit two of Harding's five 3-pointers. Aubrey Isbell made 5-of-9 shots and added 11 points.

With 26 points, Hawley moved past Hall of Famer Kristen Celsor for sixth place in career scoring at Harding. Hawley now has 1,570 career points and trails Sydney Layrock by one point for fifth place. The 26-point outing was Hawley's 30th career game with 20 or more points.

Harding held Southeastern without a field goal until the 3:33 mark of the first quarter and limited the Savage Storm to only two field goals.

Offensively, Harding shot 55.6% in the quarter, and Josie Williams nailed a 3-pointer from the top of the key to give the Lady Bisons a 24-8 lead after one quarter. Harding held a 12-3 rebound margin in the period.

Harding continued to force turnovers in the second quarter and led 37-22 at halftime. Sage Hawley made 7-of-11 shots in the first half and led all scorers with 16 points. Harley Harbour had six rebounds in the first half, and Josie Williams had four assists.

The Lady Bisons continued to shoot well in the third quarter, hitting 7-of-13 shots, including two 3-pointers, and Harding led 58-37 entering the fourth quarter.

Harding's next action is Thursday in Searcy against Oklahoma Baptist.
