Big-Fly Bisons Bash Bearcats; HU hits 5 HR in Doubleheader Sweep

SEARCY – Harding powered five home runs in a doubleheader sweep of Southwest Baptist on Saturday in nonconference baseball action at Jerry Moore Field. The Bisons clinched game one 8-3 with three homers and secured game two 5-1 with an additional two.

Harding completed a four-game series sweep against Southwest Baptist after sealing victories of 7-0 and 11-3 on Friday. The Bisons, now 6-1 overall, will commence Great American Conference play next weekend against Southern Nazarene in Bethany, Oklahoma.

Despite Southwest Baptist's initial two-run lead in the first inning, Harding swiftly equalized in the third on Sebastian Martinez's bases-loaded single. Sawyer Price's sprint home on a wild pitch in the fourth propelled Harding to a 3-2 lead, followed by a succession of homers. Collin Helms' solo shot to right in the fourth, Martinez's blast to right-center in the fifth, and Coulton Doyle's second series homer to left-center in the sixth sealed Harding's scoring.

Martinez led the Bison attack, going 4-for-4 with a run and three RBIs. Davis Welch (2-0) secured the win on the mound, allowing two earned runs with three strikeouts in 4.1 innings. Griffin Meeker stepped in during the fifth, pitching 2.2 innings with three strikeouts to notch his second save.

In game two, Harding steadily added single tallies in each of the first four innings. Cooper Newsom opened the scoring with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch, giving the Bisons a 1-0 lead in the first. Nathan Bowie extended the lead to 2-0 in the second with an opposite-field home run. Despite Southwest Baptist narrowing the margin to 2-1, Newsom's homer to left-center pushed the Bisons' lead to 3-1.

Sawyer Price contributed to Harding's final runs, crossing home plate twice – once on a wild pitch in the fourth and again on Helms' RBI single in the sixth. Javier Lobo (1-0) clinched his first win of the season on the mound, fanning four and allowing only two hits in 3.1 scoreless innings of relief. Parker Newby started the game and conceded an earned run in 2.2 innings, while Kyle Lane sealed the deal with a scoreless seventh.

Helms shone in the doubleheader, going 4-for-7 with two hits in each game. He leads the team with a .565 batting average and has multiple hits in all six games he has played.
