Harding Women Suffer Narrow Loss to SWOSU After Slow Start

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Harding fell behind early and could not recover, losing 54-51 to Southwestern Oklahoma on Saturday in a Great American Conference women's basketball game at Pioneer Cellular Events Center.

Harding struggled to make shots, shooting 25% or lower in each of the first three quarters.

The Lady Bisons faced a 17-point deficit, 46-29, with 8:54 left in the game. They then switched to a full-court press and mounted a furious rally. Harding went on a 15-3 run and trimmed the SWOSU lead to 49-44 with 2:41 remaining. Rory Geer's layup with 29 seconds left brought Harding within one point, 52-51, but Southwestern sank two free throws with 22 seconds left. The Lady Bisons failed to score on their last two possessions.

The loss dropped Harding to 22-4 overall and 17-3 in the GAC. Southwestern improved to 13-13 overall and 10-10 in conference.

Harding started slowly, making only 3-of-12 shots in the first quarter and trailing 13-9 at the end of the period. Harding's shooting woes continued in the second quarter.

The Lady Bisons hit only 4-of-20 shots, but they held the Lady Bulldogs to 11 points in the quarter and trailed by only five points, 24-19, at halftime.

Shooting 3-of-13 in the third quarter, Harding fell behind by 11 points, 40-29, entering the final quarter.
