SEARCY – Arkansas-Monticello hit a free-throw line jumper with less than a second on the clock to defeat Harding 65-63 in Great American Conference men's basketball action Thursday at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
The loss dropped Harding to 12-15 overall and 9-12 in conference. The Bisons are still alive for a spot in the GAC Tournament. Harding travels to Henderson State on Saturday for the final game of the regular season.
Harding held a slim 36-34 lead at halftime. Rylie Marshall had 15 points at the break, and the Bisons made all 11 of their free-throw attempts.
Arkansas-Monticello scored the first seven points of the second half and led by 10 with 12:25 left. Harding whittled away at the lead and tied the game on a Sam Smith jumper in the lane with 29 seconds left.
UAM ran the clock down before hitting the final shot with 0.4 left on the clock.
Marshall led Harding with 20 points. Keyln McBride and Sam Smith had 10 points each.
Harding honored its six seniors in a postgame ceremony. Playing their final home game Thursday were Robert Choughaz, Abou Gbane, Brahm Harris, Sam Henderson, Davis Morgan and J.T. Smith.
