Three Little, Too Late: Bisons Fall to Missouri S&T

SEARCY – Harding scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth and had the tying run at the plate, but fell 6-3 to Missouri S&T of the Great Lakes Valley Conference on Tuesday at Jerry Moore Field.

The loss dropped Harding to 13-9 overall and go back on the road this weekend to take on Southwestern Oklahoma in Weatherford in a three-game Great American Conference series. Missouri S&T improved to 9-8.

Down 6-0 entering the bottom of the ninth, Nathan Bowie opened the inning with a walk. Coulton Doyle then lined his third double of the season off the right field wall. Wesley Featherston then walked to load the bases. After an out, Michael Dewald singled through the left side to drive in Bowie. Sebastian Martinez then lined a single to left to score two more, but the Bisons did not push another run across.

Missouri S&T drew seven walks in the game with four of them coming around to score.

Harding left 10 runners on and went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position before the ninth inning.

Keaton Baird (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing five runs in 4 1/3 innings. Javier Lobo, Griffin Meeker and Kyle Lane each had scoreless relief outings.

Dewald and Cooper Newsom both had two-hit games. Dewald leads the team with a .416 batting average.
